The beginning of identity trust (see our vision: vision on security) is the reliable recording of the identities that need access to your information and information systems.
Registration
Broadly speaking, there are two ways in which digital identities are registered: from a source system or via a registration portal. It is important that, within the framework of privacy legislation, no more information is recorded than is necessary to grant access. But it is also important that not too little information is recorded to be able to assess the risks and reliability.
Vetting services
One of the issues is how to link the identity with sufficient reliability to a natural person. For the most common source system, the personnel administration, this is usually arranged through the recruitment procedure, where a new employee identifies himself. But what to do if the new person lives at a great distance and is unable to visit? There are various ‘remote vetting’ solutions for this, each with a different reliability. From verification via a video connection to physically visiting the address. What suits you best depends on the risk that your organisation is prepared to run.
